WHO WE ARE
HIV Law Project was the first and, today, remains the only legal agency providing comprehensive services exclusively to low income people living with HIV/AIDS in New York City.
Who We Are
We are a not-for-profit organization aimed creating lasting, positive change in the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS. Recognized for our commitment to accountability, innovation and collaboration, our work takes us into the heart of communities, where we help individuals and families help themselves.
Our core values are equality, respect, fostering a commitment to public service, collaboration, and pursuit of excellence.
WE ACT OUT OF A SENSE OF SOCIAL JUSTICE FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV/AIDS.
We recognize people living with HIV/AIDS deserve to live with dignity and respect as valued members of our society but are stigmatized and face discrimination because of their illness. We further recognize that homophobia, racism and sexism in our society has played a fundamental role in the response to and spread of the epidemic. We are committed to providing all our clients with high quality legal and advocacy services without judgment.
WE ACT WITH A SENSE OF URGENCY.
Until there is a cure, we recognize that people living with HIV/AIDS cannot wait for access to medical care and treatment, medically appropriate housing, and other essential services and benefits. We are committed to growing and changing in response to shifts in the epidemic and the needs of our clients. We are proactive in our efforts to eliminate injustices and improve the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS.
WE PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE.
for all who wish to join us in the fight against HIV/AIDS, and to find joy and fulfillment through tangible service. We value and acknowledge all contributions equally.
WE FOSTER A SPIRIT OF COLLABORATION AND TEAMWORK AMONG CLIENTS, STAFF, VOLUNTEERS, BOARD, DONORS AND THE COMMUNITIES WE SERVE.
We recognize we can do more and be more effective by working closely with all of our stakeholders, and are committed to sharing our knowledge and skills to empower others and ourselves. We are committed to being strongly and effectively identified with the communities we serve, and to including clients in key leadership positions and decision-making processes. We seek opportunities to provide leadership to the community.
WE PURSUE EXCELLENCE.
We perform our work with professionalism and integrity. We ensure the highest standards of quality through self-evaluation, feedback, and self-improvement. We strive to be leaders in the field of HIV/AIDS legal advocacy, and are dedicated in our pursuit for social justice for all people livening with HIV/AIDS.
