Letter to the Institute of Medicine in Support of HIV Testing as a Preventive Service for Women | April 2011

HIV Law Project co-authored comments on behalf of the HIV Testing Reimbursement Subcommittee of the HIV Health Care Access Working Group affiliated with the Federal AIDS Policy Partnership. The comments were addressed to the Institute of Medicine as the IOM conducts an analysis and creates recommendations for HHS of preventive services for women to be included under health care reform. Our comments urge that all HIV tests, regardless of the patient’s known risk factors, should be covered by insurers as an essential preventive service for women, including transgender women. Forty allied agencies signed on to the letter.
