September 2, 2010 (New York City) —HIV Law Project's Summer Advocacy Institute is underway. Classes began on August 11, 2010. This eight-week program is designed to teach basic advocacy skills and develop leadership among HIV-positive women living in New York City. "We've [HIV Law Project] been spearheading efforts to educate, train, and empower low-income women living with HIV/AIDS since 1989," said Tracy L. Welsh, Executive Director at HIV Law Project. "Now in its second year, the Summer Institute is the contemporary incarnation of this 20+ year effort."
Twenty women are enrolled in the 2010 program, including graduates of HIV Law Project's spring 2010 Law TAP program, which is a legal know-your-rights training series for women living with HIV/AIDS and members of the Center for Women & HIV Advocacy's Steering Committee.
